Who we are

The ARM is a bilingual organization whose mission is to represent and support the residents of McGill- in all aspects of their life as residents. It accomplishes this through consistent interactions with residency programs, hospitals, the McGill Faculty of Medicine and the government. It is composed of McGill residents elected by their peers.

The ARM is devoted to the study, defense, and advancement of the economic, social, moral, and scientific interests of its community within the McGill academic health network.

Welcome

LETTER FROM THE ARM PRESIDENT (2015 - 2016)

President 2015-2017

President 2015-2017

Dear McGill Resident,

The Association of Residents of McGill (ARM) is equally thrilled to be welcoming you within its generous folds for this coming year!

The ARM is dedicated to ensuring that your residency experience is as smooth and as pleasant as possible. The ARM Board is composed of resident representatives from various specialties across all the McGill sites. When not saving lives, their main past times are ensuring that the collective agreement is being respected- protecting residents, negotiating with the Quebec government in regards to future job opportunities, spearheading new wellness initiatives, and organizing social events for members of the ARM.

The ARM represents more than 1200 residents and fellows and is part of the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec (FMRQ), an umbrella organization that regroups the four Quebec resident associations. The four institutions work together to provide a Collective Agreement that includes all the rules and regulations regarding our pay and call schedules.

This year is a big year for us! The Collective Agreement is currently in the process of re-negotiation so stay tuned for updates! For more detailed information about the contract, please refer to the FMRQ. We are also in the process of rebranding our corporate image, the start of which was our new logo and website, with much more to come! We continue to do what we can to help residents navigate through Quebec and Canada’s difficult job market, work with the Royal College on the new competency-based learning objectives, and represent residents on multiple committees (CaRMS, FMOQ, FMSQ, CMQ, etc.). One of our main priorities has been, is, and will remain, resident wellness. We raise awareness through presentations, events and represent residents on Program and Faculty level committees, as well as outside McGill, both at the FMRQ level and in the public eye.

Being a member of the ARM is being part of a community. The ARM unites residents spread out far and wide across the McGill hospital network, with hospital and University staff. A great way to meet your fellow residents (other than paging them at 3AM!) is to attend the events that the ARM has in store for you this year (Code Red Party, Resident Formal, etc. – Information to come)! We invite you to browse our website for news and upcoming social events.

We also host General Assemblies, which provide the opportunity to meet the ARM executives, hear about our Collective Agreement, and the issues that affect all residents at McGill. When these assemblies are called, it is to discuss crucial problems and positions that require input of the entire resident body in order to truly represent the needs and desires of our residents at the McGill level, as well as the provincial and national levels. Please consult your emails for the most updated information.

Have a great year!

DR. ARIS HADJINICOLAOU, MD.
